Zack was encouraged to participate as a charity boxer by LIFFC co-founder Jeff Cohen.

“Admittedly I was reluctant to volunteer,” he explained. “  As appealing as it sounded to subject myself to regular two-hour grueling training session to prepare myself for being punched in the face, the prospect of fighting scared me. After some thought and reflection, it was the fear – the idea of challenging the boundaries of my comfort zone to do something good – that motivated me to participate. Some incessant pressure from Jeff Cohen didn’t hurt either.

“I’m also excited and intrigued by the prospect of achieving a tangible physical and mental reward for our work. I see the training/boxing as a physical, mental, and emotional manifestation of the work we are doing to raise money, and when the fight is over, I hope to feel as though I have achieved a great deal not only for the wonderful organizations supported by LIFCC, but also myself.

“At the end of the day, I think it is critically important for those in an advantaged position to give back and support those who aren’t as fortunate, and continually finding new ways to do that keeps it rewarding and interesting.”

Zack earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics and Certificate in Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He currently resides in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn.
